Workshop on Evolutionary Algorithms - Challenges in Theory and Practice

Bordeaux, France, 29th of March, 2010

Workshop supported by the "Évolution Artificielle" Association

News!!! Some of the presentations given during the workshop are availabe for download below (please refer to the schedule table).

The main goal of the workshop consists in offering a common discussion ground for the theoretical and practical aspects of evolutionary algorithms. A variety of theoretical studies on stochastic evolutionary type algorithms are acknowledged through a series of mathematical developments in parallel with a new range of specialized metaheuristics. The primary focus lies on discussing the existing findings, establishing challenging aspects for both communities for future work and validating recent ideas. The workshop is an extension of the ALEA working group, gathering researchers working on Advanced Learning Evolutionary Algorithms.

The massive use and large applicability spectrum of evolutionary algorithms for real-life applications determined the need of establishing solid theoretical grounds. Their mathematical analysis by means of pure and applied probability constitutes one of the  challenging aspects defining the research topics of the ALEA team. Theory based results have the capability of ensuring performance guarantee factors for evolutionary algorithms in areas as diverse as optimization, bio-informatics or robotics.

This workshop will provide the opportunity of exchanges between researchers of INRIA teams and international collaborators, working on theoretical and practical aspect of evolutionary techniques and establish common challenging research aspects.
